The North Shore Water Reclamation District (District) owns and operates three advanced water reclamation facilities (WRFs) in Lake County, Illinois, which service over 300,000 customers. These three plants have a combined design capacity of 63.4 million gallons per day. The District also owns and operates a state of the art accredited laboratory located at its Gurnee Administration Building. The laboratory performs multimedia analyses for conventional pollutants, metals, volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds, and biological analyses.
The public is invited to tour the District’s three WRFs and laboratory. Tours are scheduled Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 2:30 pm (depending upon individual plant operating times) and last approximately 1-2 hours, depending on the facility. For safety reasons, tour participants must be at least 10 years of age or in 5th grade. To schedule a tour, complete and submit the Tour Application Form. Please note that the listed tour guidelines must be strictly followed. The District reserves the right to cancel tours at any time or limit the number of participants per tour.
Individual attendee requests will be accommodated based on facility availability or may be combined with a pre-scheduled group tour when necessary. Individuals will be placed on a waiting list and contacted once the next group tour is scheduled.
